STOP 5: RAWNCHY

STOP 5: RAWNCHY

For my final blog post, I visited Rawnchy, a small plant-based cafe in Dennistoun.  The Food  The main menu is available via a QR which is found on each table, this can be seen below: Additionally, the cafe has an extensive drinks menu: The cafe also offers occasion cakes which can be ordered in the cafe or online.  Rather than ordering a standard coffee, we decided to be adventurous with our drinks and ordered a rose, charcoal, and param violet latte. Although these were aesthetically pleasing, the taste was very sweet. If you enjoy sweet drinks these would be a good option. However, if you do not have a very sweet tooth, a 'special latte' is probably not for you.  In terms of food, we went for the virtue stack, pastrami, and salted caramel brownie.  Despite knowing Rawnchy is a plant-based cafe, one of us didn't realise the pastrami would be a plant-based alternative...this sandwich did not go down well. However, the virtue stack and salted caramel brown...

STOP 3: SCRAN

For my third post, I visited SCRAN, a small cafe on Alexandra Parade. The cafe was awarded Best Coffee and Restaurant East in the Glasgow Live 2019 awards and after visiting this came as no surprise.

Brunch Dennsitoun

The Food

I went to the cafe with my flatmates. On arrival, we were given water for the table. As you can see from the menu, there are plenty of options for both breakfast and lunch. In addition, there was a wide selection of cakes behind the counter.

The photos of the food speak for themselves. We went for the french toast with berries, roast pepper toastie, a breakfast roll, and halloumi fries.

All the food was perfect. If I could recommend anything, it would 100% be the loaded halloumi fries, not the healthiest option but definitely worthwhile. The Nutella mascarpone that came with the french toast was also incredible.

Prices

The menu above shows SCRAN's reasonable prices.  As this is my third Dennistoun cafe/restaurant review it has become clear that the prices of the establishments so far have all been at a similar level and noticeably cheaper than the West end.

The Interior/Atmosphere

The one drawback of SCRAN is its size. There are only a few tables inside so during a busy weekend the waiting time is rather long. However, they do also offer customer seating outside. Although the space is small, with neon lights, framed pictures, and synthetic plants, the cafe has certainly made the most of the room available.

The staff were all lovely, at first they forgot about our fries but they were very apologetic and even took 50p off of the bill. Furthermore, it was freezing the morning we were there so our waitress brought over a mini radiator!

Overall, SCRAN is the perfect spot for brunch or a coffee and cake. The small cafe is a perfect space to meet a few friends for a catch-up.
