STOP 5: RAWNCHY

STOP 5: RAWNCHY

For my final blog post, I visited Rawnchy, a small plant-based cafe in Dennistoun.  The Food  The main menu is available via a QR which is found on each table, this can be seen below: Additionally, the cafe has an extensive drinks menu: The cafe also offers occasion cakes which can be ordered in the cafe or online.  Rather than ordering a standard coffee, we decided to be adventurous with our drinks and ordered a rose, charcoal, and param violet latte. Although these were aesthetically pleasing, the taste was very sweet. If you enjoy sweet drinks these would be a good option. However, if you do not have a very sweet tooth, a 'special latte' is probably not for you.  In terms of food, we went for the virtue stack, pastrami, and salted caramel brownie.  Despite knowing Rawnchy is a plant-based cafe, one of us didn't realise the pastrami would be a plant-based alternative...this sandwich did not go down well. However, the virtue stack and salted caramel brown...

STOP 1: MESA

Welcome to the first post!

MESA is perhaps one of the most well-known cafés in the East-End so where better to start? Today I visited the café with a friend for brunch. It was understandably busy for a Saturday afternoon and they do not take reservations, making this one drawback. However, the staff were happy to take my number and give us a text when a table became available.

The Food
As seen in the image below, the menu is very unique.

I went for Turkish eggs, charred aubergine, dill yogurt, pickled apricots, and pomegranate. My friend was slightly less adventurous and went for the maple, bacon, blueberries, and toasted pecans pancakes.

Both meals were amazing, and the portion sizes were huge. As a vegetarian there were plenty of options, additionally, the menu has many options for vegans and meat-eaters. If you're not a very adventurous eater there is also a variety of breakfast rolls available.

The coffee we ordered was just as good as the food. Furthermore, there was an array of cakes... unfortunately we had eaten too much to try these.
Upon finishing our food, we spoke to both waitresses who told us the food on the menu is middle eastern-inspired since the head chef is from Sardinia.

The Interior
Inside the café is not large. There were roughly seven tables with the addition of a few tables outside. The interior however makes the most of the space available without making it feel cramped.
Prices
Another high point for this café is the prices. Considering the portion sizes and the food quality, you definitely receive value for your money - an important factor for students.
Overall, with unique food, good value for money, and friendly staff, MESA is definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in Dennistoun.

Thank you for reading :)
